The Solid State Story

We started Solid State Networks in 2005 to develop high-performance software solutions for content delivery and bring those solutions to market. Our founding team members share a common vision, which is to enable software to improve the efficiency of network resource utilization in a manner that changes the economics of content delivery. Our team has extensive experience with software development, the commercial CDN market, and knowledge of peer-to-peer networking systems. Thus, by 2004 we could only come to a single conclusion: content publishers and CDNs should and eventually would adopt P2P technology, but only when correctly designed to meet or improve upon the quality of service and the user experience that publishers have come to expect.

From the outset, the team has been focused on developing a solution that is complementary with existing CDNs. The "best of both worlds" result that we seek comes from combining the reliability and QoS available with HTTP with the economic and performance of P2P. We had examined dozens of P2P protocols and had even considered developing our own. By 2004 it was clear that the BitTorrent™ protocol had proven to be extremely effective and scalable for delivering rich media files to many users across disparate networks. So we chose to work with the BT protocol for many reasons: proven scalability, open protocol, and an active developer community. At that time, all BT user software was designed for file sharing communities, with several limitations that we believed were prohibiting adoption of the technology for "pure" file distribution by commercial enterprise. So we set out to enhance the protocol and create simple to use client and server software that would meet the expectation of enterprise customers.

Today, from our headquarters in Tempe, Arizona, we continue to evolve our technology for industry-specific solutions such as video game, high resolution video, and software delivery. We remain focused on our core mission, that of enabling our customers to easily and economically scale their content delivery, or as we like to say, "Deliver at the Speed of Demand™".
